POEMA (1925)
POEMA the tango song by Francisco Canaro with sung lyrics by Roberto Maida is a favorite of many people at the milongas. POEMA is a poem written in 1925 by Eduardo Bianco and the music was written by Mario Melfi. In Canaro's tango, Roberto Maida sings the second verse of POEMA and this verse is sung on the refrain of the tango. Francisco Canaro, by the way, was the first composer to use the canter, on the tango songs. And Canaro only had the singer sing on the refrain verse of his tangos. Other composers soon followed with their canters, however often the canters sang not only on the refrain of the tango, but continuing through the tango song.

Cuando las flores de tu rosal,.... When the flowers of your rose garden,
vuelvan mas bellas a florecer, .... bloom again ever so beautiful
recordaras mi querar, .... you'll remember my love
y has de saber, ..... and you will come to know,
todo mi intenso mal. ..... all my intense misfortune.
De aquel poema embriagdor, ...... Of that one intoxicating poem,
ya nada queda entre los dos, ..... nothing is left between us,
doy mi triste adios. ...... I say my sad goodbye,
sentiras la emocion, ..... you will feel the emotion,
de mi dolor. ...... of my pain.
